Free Myopia Management Consultations

Our consultation is designed to help families understand whether myopia management may be appropriate for their child and what next steps could look like — at no cost.

Featured in Review of Myopia Management, the leading publication dedicated exclusively to myopia care.

Virtual Consultation

Virtual consultations are available for families who are not able to come in right away. These visits focus on reviewing history, prescriptions, risk factors, and answering general questions. An in-person visit will be needed to measure your child’s axial length before a proposed treatment plan can be discussed.

In-Person Consultation

An in-person visit allows us to collect the most accurate information about your child’s eyes, including measuring axial length (the length of the eye). Axial length plays a key role in understanding myopia risk and progression and cannot be measured virtually.

How much does the myopia management consultation cost?

Our myopia management consultation is free. This visit is designed to evaluate risk, explain options, and determine whether myopia management is appropriate for your child before any commitment is made.

What is done at the free consultation?

During the consultation, we measure your child’s axial length (the front-to-back length of the eye). This is important because excessive eye growth is what drives worsening nearsightedness, even if a glasses prescription has not changed much. You will receive a personalized report showing your child’s measurements plotted on a growth chart so you can clearly see how their eye growth compares to expected norms for their age.

We also perform corneal topography, which creates a detailed map of the front surface of the eye. This helps us determine whether your child is a candidate for orthokeratology (Ortho-K) and, if so, whether a standard or complex lens design would be needed. Topography also helps us rule out conditions such as keratoconus (a condition where the cornea becomes thin and irregular, affecting vision and contact lens safety).

Will you check my child's glasses prescription at the consultation?

No — we do not check or update prescriptions during the consultation. The consult is focused on measuring axial length, reviewing risk, and discussing whether myopia management is needed.
If we recommend treatment and your family chooses to enroll, an updated refraction (prescription check) will be performed before treatment begins.

What is the difference between standard and complex Ortho-K fits?

Standard Ortho-K lenses are designed for eyes with more typical corneal shapes and lower prescriptions. Complex Ortho-K fits are used for children with very flat corneas, higher levels of nearsightedness, and/or higher astigmatism whose eyes cannot be corrected with traditional Ortho-K lenses such as CRT.

In complex cases, Dr. Miller personally designs the lenses rather than selecting from standard parameters. This level of customization requires advanced training and experience and is why only a small number of offices in Texas are able to offer complex Ortho-K fitting for these types of prescriptions and corneal shapes.

What payment options are available if we decide to move forward?

If treatment is recommended and you choose to proceed, we accept all standard forms of payment, including HSA and FSA funds. We also offer 0% payment-plan options for families who prefer to spread payments out over time rather than paying the full program fee upfront.
