Ortho-K lenses gently reshape the cornea overnight, giving children clear, glasses-free vision during the day. But unlike most Ortho-K designs, which come in pre-set or limited designs, WAVE NightLens is fully customizable — as unique as your child’s fingerprint. While many doctors may be certified in WAVE, it takes extensive experience and advanced training to design lenses at the highest level. Dr. Miller has that rare expertise, allowing her to create lenses that go beyond the limitations of standard Ortho-K and fit virtually any prescription with precision and safety
Unlike standard daily disposable contacts, these specialty lenses are specifically designed to slow the progression of myopia in children. They are worn comfortably during the day like regular contacts, but their advanced optical designs provide proven protection for your child’s long-term vision.
MiSight® lenses are FDA-approved for childhood myopia control, while NaturalVue® MF offers an innovative extended-depth design. Both options are safe, effective, and tailored to fit your child’s lifestyle.
MiYOSMART lenses look just like ordinary glasses but have a special Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (D.I.M.S.) design proven to slow myopia progression by more than 50%. Children see clearly while their eyes are gently protected from worsening nearsightedness. These lenses are lightweight, durable, and especially helpful for kids who are not ready for contacts or overnight lenses. They combine everyday convenience with long-term eye health benefits.
Low-dose atropine eye drops are a safe, research-backed option to slow myopia progression, used once nightly before bed. Typically, atropine is used for younger children or for those who may not yet be ready for contacts.
However, at our practice, because we offer Stellest glasses, we no longer use atropine as stand-alone treatment. While atropine has shown promise in controlled studies, in real life it’s harder to know if the drops are going in properly, if they’re remembered on late nights, if they fall asleep before their typical bedtime, and therefore miss it, etc. With Stellest glasses, we can confidently track whether they are being worn — giving families and doctors greater certainty that the treatment is actually being used.
We now only use atropine in a preventative role — for children whose eyes have already grown more than expected (as measured by axial length) but who are not yet visually nearsighted. This allows us to step in early, before glasses or contacts are needed, to help protect their vision for the future.
For children at higher risk of fast progression, combining treatments often provides the strongest protection. Pairing options like WAVE NightLens and atropine can maximize effectiveness while still fitting your child’s lifestyle and comfort. Dr. Miller carefully evaluates each child’s prescription, eye health, and family history to recommend the right combination — ensuring the best chance to slow myopia safely and effectively.
